I wake alone
surrounded as I may be
by others sleeping, speaking, singing
throughout the day
What I think, know
are approximated with words,
the edges of my soul
rounded in translation
But
I am not alone in being alone.
I, you, we are a lifetime
of needing, finding, keeping
ties, me to you, you to me, us to we
I know myself through my reflection in you
and all the we I know who know me
As I am
alone by choice, by need
remind me I am still tied
to all who sleep, speak and sing
throughout the day
That even now, I will find
I see you see me
