In a Minute

Here there is no night
no day
no watching hours.
We wait,
we have minutes

To the edges of ever
indistinct, inevitable
no comfort, no malice
minutes touch lightly
and pass

Until the one minute
and five it takes after
to hear,
the obligatory minutes to fight a lie
then know

in time
day as a measure will return
someone will say, it’s late
you should go home
she’ll be released in the morning

or

minutes find violence
time divides to ever more past
and now, a sea of minutes to wait
til the tide undertakes its prey
and goes

.
